NATIONAL MUSIC FOUNDATION FOR CALASPARRA

A family of famous musicians with five historical links to the Calasparra Association Band of Music will locate their newly formed “Galindo Foundation” here in Calasparra.
The work of the new “Fundación Galindo,” which will support musical training and education through a system of grants, has already begun planning concerts and the allocation of grants for this year.
The Galindo family has special links to the Association Band of Music which began when Germán Galindo Torrente became Director in 1907. He succeeded his father-in-law, Lorenzo Caro, who reportedly founded the Band in 1880 and was first Director. (However, some reports note the existence of the Band as early as 1869).
His sons, Francisco, Lorenzo and Germán Galindo Caro were both musicians and directors and in 1987, when his father died, Francisco stepped into his shoes as Director. Other members of the family who have also performed with the Band over the years are Rodolfo Espinosa Galindo, famous clarinetist and pianist who died prematurely, and his grandchildren, Germán and José Galindo Moya. Alejandro and Ana Galindo González, are current members and represent the fifth generation of the Galindo family in the Band.
The Foundation President is Germán Galindo Moya and the Mayor of Calasparra, “whose enthusiasm has been fundamental to the viability of the project,” is represents the Town Hall. The initiative is supported by the regional Government, a group of personalities representing the cultural and social life of Spain, the Music Conservatory in Murcia and various financial institutions.
