The geological Society of Murcia is offering a free tour of all the geological sites in Calasparra for laymen next Saturday, May 11
which will explain the consequences of natural disasters, such as earthquakes, volcanos and floods, on the local area.
This is an opportunity to see the local area through the eyes of a geologist as part of a regional project to bring geology to the people.
Called “El Geolodía 13” the tour will start from Calasparra town and end up at the Sanctuary taking in 5.2k of paths and tracks.
During the walk geologists will explain the effects of geological processes on the locality and particularly how natural disasters have created, modified and interfered with the evolution of the earth.
There will be five stops on the tour taking in the falt line Socovos-Calasparra, volcanic diques and volcanos at the Cabezo Negro and deposits produced by antique fluvial systems of the “Paleosegura,” which preceded the current River Segura, finishing at the sanctuary. Walkers can eat at the Sanctuary and later visit the Puerto Cave.
The tour is completely free of charge and open to the public. Places are limited to 150.
The Geolodía 13 is sponsored by Calasparra Town Hall, QUALAT, the Sancuary and FECYT.
