The residents of Calasparra and the political parties of the left turned out to welcome and support the regional march against repossessions, unemployment and cuts when it passed through the town on the way to Cieza.
The United Left organized a parallel demonstration at the former Cofrusa (Diosa) Canning plant, where the marchers paused to support the former workforce at the plant, before moving onto the main square.
An emotional, Ricardo Garcia, Coordinator of the IU, told Radio Calasparra he was impressed by the reaction of the people of Calasparra who had turned out to support the “fight of the working classes.”
The ruling Socialist PSOE party received the demonstrators in the Plaza de la Corredera, where there were speeches, and food and drink was provided for the visitors.
The march will continue on it´s 170 kilometre route through Cieza today and onto Murcia where it will end in a massive rally.
