Calasparra Town Hall has presented the (Rice Trails) Rutas de Arroz programme of experiences in the open air in the rice fields and along the course of the Segura river from May through to October.
Juan José López, Head of the local Tourist Promotion Department; José Martínez Núñez, President of the Denomination of Origin Calasparra Rice; and Ana García, President of the Friends of the Rice Musuem Association, officially presented the programe.
This year water is the great protagonist: the Segura river and the dams as well as the copses and the river banks in a programme that combines walking, routes on horseback, cycle tourism and visits to enclaves such as the Molino del Soto (Old Soto Rice Mill), the Isla de Juan Vacas, Villa Vieja and the Abrigos del Pozo. Moreover Calasparra celebrates the 40th anniversary of the DOP Calasparra Rice.
This programme comes with a a double Sendero Azul (Blue Footpath Award) as the Rice Routes received this award in February and the trail «El Bayo» received the same award a year before.
The programme begins with two trails:
Saturday May 30 at 7.30pm Saberes entre arrozales (Getting to Know the Rice Fields) Sendero del Arroz (Rice Trail)
Meet at the Escuela de Piragüismo (Canoe Club) Free of charge but signing on obligatory. Places limited,
Sunday May 31 at 7.30pm Ruta de los Espejos, paisajes del agua (Mirrors Walk – Landscapes with water) at El Bayo.
