ANNUAL PROHIBITION ON BONFIRES FROM JUNE 1

The annual prohibition on bonfires and using machines that could cause sparks will come into force in the Murcia region on Monday June 1, 2026.
The prohibition period usually last until at least September and forms part of the forest fire prevention plan.
During this period there is a complete ban on bonfires and no permission for bonfires will be granted. Barbecues should be covered and lighting fires to cook in the countryside is also banned.
Every year Spain suffers forest fires that devastate enormous swathes of the countryside leaving it petrified for years afterwards. Last year in Northern Spain many kilometres of countryside, including peopleś homes, were burned in forest fires.
The two main causes of fires in Spain are negligence (from cigarette butts to bonfires) and fires lit deliberately.
