The Coffee Morning held in the OAPs Club in Calasparra this week in aid of Dogs Rescue raised an amazing 500 euros towards the care, food and vets bills for this voluntary organisation.
Dogs Rescue Calasparra has been indundated with litters of puppies, abandoned by their owners, this spring and has taken in various abandoned and mistreated animals despite a full house at their refuge.
Any abandon normally involves high vet´s bills as owners in Calasparra shirk their responsibilities and look to others to assume them. This task normally falls to Dogs Rescue, an organisation run by volunteers and entirely dependant on donations.
Dogs Rescue is also looking for homes for the puppies abandoned (see the Dogs Rescue facebook page for details).
The solution to this problem is easy. Dogs should be spayed so there are no unwanted pregnancies and all dogs should be chipped so the owners can be identified. This is the law that is flagrantly broken in Calasparra every year and litters of puppies, and sometimes their mothers as well, are left with a life lottery: Will they be found? Can they be saved? Who gets the bill?
We are lucky to have such an association as Dogs Rescue in Calasparra and lucky to have so many generous people who support it.
We are unlucky to have so many heartless, irresponsble people who don´t care if their dogs live or die and flagrantly flout the law by not spaying and not chipping so they can´t get caught!!!
