FAMILY IN DRAMATIC RIVER RESCUE

A couple with two children were rescued from the Moratalla River on Saturday evening as they clung onto the canes of tall reeds to avoid being dragged away by the curent.
The family, which included a man of 34 years, his wife and children of nine and 11 year, were dragged along by the current where the Moratalla river meets the Segura river close to the Viveros Camping but managed to hold onto the canes until they the fire brigade arrived.
The emergency services received a call alerting them to the plight of the family at 6.30pm on Saturday evening. Local Police, the Fire Brigade, Enviromental Officers and a Medical Team attended the scene.
Once rescued the family were attended by medical staff on the river bank but did not require  assistance at the Medical Centre.
Editors Note
This dramatic rescue underlines the dangers of under-estimating the strong currents in the local rivers. Readers are reminded there are designated bathing areas  under the road bridge near the Canoe School and in the Alamadenes Canyon with life savers on standby.
Every year imprudence costs lives in rivers nearby. Please be careful out there!!!
