The European Union has issued a rapid warning against strawberries from Morocoo which have been distributed in Spain and are contaminated by Hepatitus A.
The warning level is considered «serious» in that micro organisms of the Hepatitus A virus above the maximum permitted have been detected in this product. The contamination is a result of the strawberries being irrigated with faecal water.
A non infected person who ingests water or food contaminated with human waste from an infected person can become infested, although this is infrequent, according to the World Health Organisation. If a person is infected they can recover compeletely and have immunity for the rest of their lives.
The Consumer Association Thader say the matter is «very serious»
«Consumers trust the sanitary controls which are an obligatory part of the administation, says the Association».
Although this warning is serious the Association sends a message of calm to the population assuring that the watning system functions and mechanisms to recall the product have been activated.
