Spain is bracing itself for a General Strike called by Unions for March 29 in response to the Government´s new labour law passed last month.
While the Government claims the measures are necessary to tackle high unemployment and create jobs the Unions claim the measures remove workers’ fundamental rights and make it easier and cheaper for employers to dismiss members of the workforce.
According to recent reports the General Strike is likely to be widely supported.
More woe for the consumer is the likelihood of another price hike on April’s electricity bill. The exact amount has not yet been confirmed but it likely to be between 7 and 11%.
