The family, Fernández García, have ceded the historic rice mill at the Finca del Soto, to Calasparra Town Hall for four years.
The agreement signed between the family and the local authority accommodates tourists visiting the mill.
The water mill, an historic jewel which dates back to the XVII century, has its mechanisms perfectly preserved and functions thanks to the Rotas irrigation ditch.
Calasparra Town Hall has committed to adapting the mill for visits and securing the finances to restore the mill to full working order.
The mill last worked commercially in 1992 when it was bought by the Melgarejo family at the Finca del Soto to mill rice under the brand «La Palma del Segura».
