The Government has given the Green light to work to expand and improve facilities at the Hospital in Caravaca, which will include an Intensive Care Unit.
The 3,599,609 euro project will take 16 months to complete.
Work will include the installation of an Intensive Care Unit; a new area for the Day Hospital; and the expansion of Out-Patient Consultations.
The project also aims to improve the quality of service, the security of patients and the working conditions of professionals.
Caravaca Hospital, also known as the North West Regional Hospital (hospital comarcal del Noroeste), serves a population of approximately 80,000.
It was last reformed at the end of 2005 but since then services have been expanded and new investment is required to provide more space.
The work is being put out to tender.
