NEW EUROPEAN HEALTH CARD FOR UK PENSIONERS

The UK will issue a new European medical card to UK pensioners, which complies with the Withdrawal Agreement, and demonstrates rights to healthcare after January 1, 2021.
The healthcare rights of those living in Spain before December 31 2020 will remain the same as long as they remain resident here.
If you have healthcare funded by the UK (eg S1 holders) you will need to apply for a new EHIC card to demonstrate your continued entitlement to EHIC cover from 1 January.

From January 1, 2020, the current UK European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) will no longer be valid.
This applies to various groups which include state pensioners, people claiming other UK benefits, frontier workers, students and other specific groups.
Under the withdrawal Agreement these groups, including state pensioners, will continue to be covered as they are now, including the receipt of a UK issues EHIC.
These groups will need to apply for a new EHIC card to replace their existing card. The procedure is very simple. Go to ww.nhs.uk/ehic
For any enquiries and doubts contact healthcare,spain@gov.uk.
According to the British Consulate the process will be phased so there will be ample time for everyone who qualifies to receive their new EHIC card in time.
