The regional Traffic Department is monitoring the use of seatbelts and child seats in 45 municipal areas in the region up until on September 18.
This special campaign will be carried out by the local police who will ensure that all occupants of a vehicle are using seatbelts; that children under 12 do not travel in the front passenger seat unless its has been specially adapted; and that small children are using appropriate child seats.
In 2009 some 22% of people who died on the roads were not wearing seat belts. On urban roads this number rose to 34%.
According to the Department of Traffic will intensify controls in urban areas and areas of “short journeys” when it is common not to use seatbelts.
