The Mayor has announced a solution to the frequent power cuts, which
have been disrupting local schools, especially the Pedreras and Esperanza
Primary Schools.
Speaking on Radio Calasparra, José Vélez said: «We have found a temporary
solution this week and expect a permanent solution within a month”.
The Mayor who says he is “confident there will be no more power cuts from now
on” said the situation had been resolved due to the rapid intervention of
Ibredrola.
He went on to clarify that although local schools are a regional
responsibility, following a meeting with the Director GeneraL of Education
Centres the Town Hall had committed to improve the electrical installations in
order to avoid further power cuts. In exchange the Department of Education had
agreed to carry out improvement works worth 50,000 euros in every education
centre in Calasparra.
“We have kept our part of the bargain,” said the Mayor, “Now we are waiting for
the Department to complete their part quickly.
Local schools have suffered major disruption with as many as 13 power cuts in
one day, which according to the worst affected, the Esperanza and Pedreras
Primary Schools, have affected classes and caused damage.
The schools reported the problem in writing on November 30, 2017 and then again
on January 9 this year. All together four written complaints were sent to the
Department of Education.
Sources at the primary school claim their pupils have been seriously affected
by the power cuts and they lament it has taken so long to resolve the
situation.
They confirmed there have been no power cuts this week.
