Today is the International
Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and, although in many
countries there is still no help available and often no recognition of a crime,
in Spain the Helpline 016 functions in 51 languages and will automatically transfer
to the 112 emergency helpline if urgent intervention is required.
So far this year 51 women have been killed by their partners or ex partners in
Spain, of those 40 had not reported previous incidents to the police. This
violence has resulted in 43 orphans and more than 80,000 reports of DV to the
police. There are 5,000 minors in vulnerable situations and 81, children of
victims, at risk.
The 016 Helpline if free of charge and you call will not appear on your telephone
bill. It is available 24 hours a day and provides immediate support for women
seeking help.
