Vaccinations against influenza for people over 64 years old, the disabled and chronically ill will be available in the Murcia region from next Monday.
The total cost of vaccinating all the vulnerable people in the region, that is 250,000 doses, will be 937,190 euros.
Last year six of the 146 people admitted to hospital in the region with flu died.
Out of these 146 cases some 84% had not been vaccinated.
In last year´s campaign 52% of people over 64 years old were vaccinated, 10% more than the previous year.
People over 64 years old are considered the most “at risk” along with those suffering from chronic breathing problems, heart conditions, diabetes, renal conditions, hepatitis, chronic inflammatory intestinal conditions, congenital immune deficiency, cancer and various other chronic conditions.
On October 20 the medical personnel will be the first to be vaccinated.
