It took 100 firefighters all night to extinguish the flames in the El Campillo area of Moratalla, next to the Cañaverosa natural park.
The fire, started in an area replanted after the great fire of 1994.
It was reported at just after 9pm last night (Wednesday), and was finally declared under control at 10am on Thursday.
Strong winds made controlling the fire more difficult and a little before midnight a Level 1 Emergency Plan was declared due to the gravity of the situation.
Firefighters from Caravaca, Cieza, Calasparra and Moratalla attended the blaze. The front of the fire reached 400 metres at one stage during the night.
Damping down in the area is expected to go through tonight, Thursday.
The area had been replanted following the great fire of Cañaverosa in 1994, which burned an area of 26,000 hectares.
