WIND AND HIGH TEMPERATURES FAN FLAMES NEAR CENAJO

Six planes, 19 fire engines and more than 120 fire fighters have been battling to control a blaze near the Cenajo reservoir in the area of Férez.
The fire was reported at 8pm on Thursday and the UME (national emergency force) was immediately mobilized.
The cause of the fire was probably a lightning strike during storms on Thursday evening and the high temperatures and wind fanned the flames. Over 300 hectares of forest has already burned.
Various hamlets in the Socovos area had to be evacuated although residents will probably be able to return to their homes this afternoon.
The latest news from the scene of the fire is that the intervention of planes carrying water has brought the fire under control although temperatures expected to be in the 40´s this afternoon are causing concern.
Another fire was also reported in nearby Ayna. The probable cause is a lightning strike.
