The local police in Cehegin have issued a warning that fraudsters, posing as agents of the electricity company, Ibredrola, are preying on old and vulnerable residents in the area.
Their modus operandi is that a person posing as a prospective carer and seeking employment will ring at the doorbell. After five or ten minutes individuals posing as technicians from Ibredrola, will call at the house where they have located old or vulnerable residents. These technicians are Spanish, very polite and educated and they insist they must enter the property to carry out a revision of the electricity installation.
Once inside the house one person inspects a washing machine or water heater and the other searches the property for valuables. Later they tell the owner the appliance needs a replacement part costing 200€.
Local police have warned residents that if someone knocks at the door and asks to inspect electricity installations or appliances not to let them enter but to call the local police.
Although these fraudsters are reported to be operating in Cehegin, Nexonr is aware that the local urbanizations are particular vulnerable to this type of crime and we urge residents to be vigilant and if there is any suspicious activity please contact the local police or ring the emergency number 112.
