WARMEST DECEMBER FOR 75 YEARS

While we have been lapping up the sunshine and basking in gratitude that we are not in flood ridden UK, the weather in the Murcia region has been breaking records.
Maximum  temperature for the month, was on December 16, when the thermometers soared to a June-like 24.2 degrees in Lorca and 24.1 degrees in Murcia.
Low temperatures were registered during the downpours on December 10, but were still well above zero at 11 degrees.
According to the Met Office this December has been the warmest on record for 75 years, even though the month started with light frost on the first day and temperatures just below zero were recorded locally.
Generally, average temperatures for December were 11.6 degrees, some 1.7 degrees above the norm, (9.9). It enters the history books as the warmest December since 1941 and has only been surpassed, in recent history, in 1989 when averages were 12 degrees above average, and 1995 and 1981 when averages were 11.9 degrees above average.
This December was “very dry,” according to the Met Office, with only three litres of rain recorded, some 16% below average.
The forecast suggests that this week may be cloudy but temperatures will hold up around the 20 degree mark or slightly under and night time temperatures will hover around five to six degrees.  However, next week the scene is more wintery with temperatures likely to fall almost 10 degrees during the day and may dip below zero at night.
