Farmers and smallholders opposed to the modernisation of the irrigation systems in Calasparra took the Municipal Auditorium by force and blocked the entrances in order to stop voting on the Alternative Plan put forward by the Comunidad de Regantes.
Despite a strong presence by the Guardia Civil the members of the opposition maintained continued their blockade of the auditórium until they were issued with a public order “denuncia” and voting was cancelled “ in order to keep the peace.”
According to the Comunidad de Regantes voting was “postponed but not cancelled” and will take place at a date to be fixed.
