The twinning committees of Donzdorf, Riorges and Calasparra received the symbolic “keys of Calasparra” at special ceremony on Saturday in the Municipal Auditorium,
The keys were presented by the Mayor of Calasparra, José Vélez Fernández, as a recognition of the committees´ work “building Europe” and bringing residents of the three communities closer together.
The Mayor underlined a “path, which began some 20 years ago, and all those who had helped construct a new form of understanding and exchange of experiences on different matters of mutual interest.
Taking part in the ceremony were the journalist, Julio Antonio Díaz, and the Mayors of the three twinned towns: Jean-Luc Chervin, Mayor of Riorges (France); Martin Stölzle, Mayor of Donzdorf (Germany) and José Vélez, Mayor of Calasparra. Also p`resent were representatives of the committees: Riorges (France), President, Elisabeth Dessaux; Donzdorf (Germany), Vice President, Reinhard Deinfelder; and Esperanza Marín, President, Calasparra.
This emotional and solemn ceremony, celebrated during the fiestas of the Donation of Calasparra to the Orden of St John last weekend, was the final act in an exchange of gifts.
The Calasparrian music group specializing in antique music, “La Danserye”, performed works in Spanish, French and German.
Closing the ceremony, musicians, Francisco Javier García Ríos (piano) and Paquita Espín (flute, played the three national anthems.
