Last week was the first anniversary of the disastrous flooding of the terraces at the local Sanctuary of Our Lady of Hope and now four trees have fallen and crashed into the river.
It was a year ago on April 11 when the waters of the river Segura broke its banks and flooded the lower terraces. Over the last year the waters have further damaged the fabric of the terraces and now the Sanctuary has lost four giant tres to the river.
Earlier this year technicians and representatives of the Segura Water Board held a site meeting at the Sanctuary to assess the damage.
Parts of the infrastructure, broken by the force of the water, have already fallen into the river and now a Sanctuary spokesperson says the terraces are in a dangerous state.
