TOWN HALL TRY TO DEFUSE CLIMATE OF HOSTILITY IN CALASPARRA

There has never been a confrontation like this in our town: a climate of hostility has been created which we must stop.
These are the words of the Deputy Mayor, José Vélez, as the Town Hall attempts to mediate between warring factions over the modernisation of irrigation systemns in Calasparra.
A special meeting has been called for the two “sides” to consider a document produced by the local adminstration which protects the interests of those who have voted for the new system and those who have voted against it.
The Mayor of Calasparra, Jesus Navarro, says the document “respects the two decisions” and goes on to say that reaching an unerstanding is in “the public interest” in Calasparra.
He also added that if the modernisation did not go a ead it is feasilbe that a law in the future would impose modernisation which would then have to be paid for in full by the local community and without EU funds.
