TOWN HALL SACKS COMPANY RUNNING OAPS RESIDENCE

The Town Hall is taking steps to rescind the contract of the company which runs the Old People’s Residence in Calasparra because it has “accumulated a debt that puts the well being and health of the residents as well as the salaries of the workers a risk”.

According to the Town Hall the residents are already being affected by the unsustainable situation as are the workers and the suppliers: “Victims,” says the Mayor of Calasparra, Jesús Navarro, “of very bad management by the Alicante de Servicios Sociosantiarios.”

The Town Hall intends to rescind the current company’s contract and put the management of the centre out to tender. Special care would be necessary to ensure the same situation does not arise again, the spokesperson noted.

The 40 workers at the Centre have not been paid for two months and have taken their case to the Inspector of Work for possible legal action.
