TOWN HALL PROTESTS AT BONFIRE BAN

Calasparra Town Hall has protested against the extension of the ban on burning agricultural waste until February 28 due to the Covid-19 epidemic.
During a visit to Calasparra by regional representative, Antonio Luego, Antonio Merino raised concerns over the extension of the ban which prohibits any burning of agricultural waste and prunings until early next year.
The Town Hall must put the ban into force in order to comply with basic recommendations to protect air quality, the atmosphere and public health.
According to Antonio Luego the ban should end in February when a new regional order, formulated with the approval of the local authorities in the region, will be approved to regulate the disposal of agricultural waste.
Ecologist in Action have issued a reminder that “the burning of branches and agricultural waste has noxious effects on the population´s health which has to breathe air contaminated by smoke. We call on the local authorities to prevent and avoid these burnings.”
However, the farmers, in the middle of the pruning season, are demanding an alternative solution,
