The regional
Department of Education has opened an “extraordinary signing on period” for
pupils who want to study GCE Arts at the local High School and will make its
final decision on Thursday.
The Mayor of Calasparra, Jose Velez, has told Radio Calasparra, “The Department
had shown a predisposition to resolve this situation. This is why they have
opened this extraordinary period for pupils to sign on and for the Department
to verify how many pupils will finally be interested in studying a GCE Arts
Course at the local High school.”
The Mayor made the comments after a meeting with the regional Head of the
Department of Education, Esperanza Moreno Reventos.
Pupils at the Emilio Perez Piñero High School, who have been protesting against
the decision not to implant a GCE Arts Course at their school, are satisfied with
the move.
Pupils, Susana Perez Duran and Eloy Aznar Navarro told listeners to the local
radio station: “We are hopeful that finally we will have a GCE Arts Course in
Calasparra this year. The decision could come by Thursday and thus end a fight
we began back in July.”
