THREE HUNDRED KILOS OF FOOD RAISED BY CHARITY FUN RUN

Some 300 people signed on the for the San Silvestre Fun Run of Calasparra and donated a kilo of food each for charity which will be distributed by the local branch of Caritas and the Red Cross.
Organised by the Town Hall this year 275 runners, aged between 6 and 75 years, completed the five kilometre run around the town centre on New Year´s Day.
Runners were not just competing for the first over the finish line but also for the most original fancy dress. Costumes included the lucky grapes of New Year´s Eve; vikings, dancers, Mama Noels and even the “Pequeño Nicholas.”
All participants received a medal presented by the Mayor or Calasparra, José Vélez, and the Head of the Youth Department, Jordi Arce.
The winners were:-
Male category: First, Lucas Postigo Pérez, 17´46; second, Francisco José Hernández Serna,18´31; third, Juan Bernal Sánchez, 18´56.
Female category : First, Ana Pérez Cobo, 25´12; Second, Clara González Lorente, 27; third, Elena Marín Fernández, 27´37.
Most original fancy dress: Lucky grapes, Román Postigo Pérez and Maria Esperanza Núñez Melgarejo.
