After three years of construction and investigation the thermo solar energy plant in Calasparra, Puerto Errado 2, was officially opened last Friday and handed over to the Spanish company which will manage commercial production.
Guest of honour at the opening ceremony was the President of the regional autonomous government, Ramón Luís Valcárcel, and the Director of the Swiss Federal Office of Energy, Walter Steinmann. Also present was The Head of the regional department of Universities, Businesses and Investigation, José Ballesta, and the Director General of Industry, Pedro Jiménez. The Mayor of Calasparra, Jesús Navarro, and the Swiss Ambassador in Spain, Urs Ziswiler, also attended.
The Calasparra plant is the biggest of its type in Europe and will produce energy for between 12,000 and 16,000 houses.
