Electricity for 15,000 homes and a surface area of 40 football pitches: the first Thermal Solar Centre with Fresnel technology in Murcia, has passed the first test phase and will be officially opened this autumn.
Calasparra offers ideal conditions for solar energy, confirms Leo Voser, Technical Director of the plant, Puerto Errado 2.
Although the plant only produces energy for 2,000 hours a year, compared to 8,000 for conventional energies such as gas, petrol or coal, the cost of production is spectacularly lower as the prime energy source, the sun, is free.
For every kilowatt produced, the Tubosol PE2, the collective of Swiss companies which has invested in this Project, earn 26 cents.
Elektra Baselland (EBL) and the other Swiss companies have constructed the plant and it will enter service in October. From this moment the plant will pass into the hands of Tubosol PE2, a Spanish collective.
