THE SALT WORKS OF LA RAMONA LISTED AND SAVED

Great news for the  Salinas de La Ramona, also known as the Royal Salt Works, of Calasparra, which have been decaying through years of neglect!
The Salt Works have been included in the National Plan of Industrial Heritage and will be restored, preserved and protected.
Many elderly people in Calasparra remember working at the salt works, which are situated on the road to the Alfonso XIII Reservoir. There are several buildings, in ruins, and extensive infrastructures where the salt was processed. The water in the area is very salty to taste and you can still see the veins of salt gleaming in the rocks of the area.
This is a fascinating site and the recognition of its importance as part of our industrial heritage means there will be grants available for its restoration and protection.
