Hundreds of people crowded into the Plaza de la Corrdera to see the Mayor of Calasparra, José Vélez, officially announce the beginning of the fiestas with a call to all Calasparrians and visitors to enjoy themselves..
At midday exactly the club, Sol and Sombre, lit the traditional starter´s rocket to mark the start of the fiestas as the crowd shouted that there would be no rest until September 8.
