The German supermarket chain, Aldi, is investigating their suppliers in the “campo Cartagena” to determine whether they have contributed to the contamination of Mar Menor.
The supermarket contacted all their suppliers weeks ago requiring a certificate of their agricultural activities.
According to Aldi they have initiated a monitoring process with their suppliers in the region in order to ensure they are not implicated in the “uncontrolled dumping” of residual irrigation waters in Mar Menor.
Although the move has caused alarm amongst farmers in Cartagena and regional politicians, organisations from the platform defending Mar Menor organised a “symbolic shopping” at different Aldi stores in the region this week.
