The British budget airline, Jet2.com began selling tickets for flights from San Javier to Manchester and Leeds yesterday as the regional government confirms the new airport at Corvera is unlikely to be operational this year.
The summer flights from San Javier will stop on November 5 and commence again for the Christmas season between December 20 and January 6.
The reports the San Javier would close this summer have proved premature and several airlines will operate flights to Europe throughout the summer.
The change of central government in Spain and a list of technical requirements have been blamed for the delay in opening the new Corvera airport.
