Mula and the Molino de Segura were ravaged yesterday by torrential rain and hail as storms swept across the region of Murcia.
Some 13 metres of wáter fell per square metre in an hour, according to the Met Office, forcing the closure of the national highway 301.
In Molino de Segura two people were swept away and had to be rescued by the emergency services while rubbish containers and cars were overturned by the torrent of water stretching from the Plaza de la Ayuntamiento and the Parque de La Compañía to the Santa Rita area where parts of the Vía Verde were also destroyed.
In Mula the villaje of El Niño registerd 25 litres of water in 20 minutes, accompanied by
electric storms and hail which damaged the apricot harvest and late fruits such as plums.
