Calasparra Town Hall has dropped the main obstacle to the September fiestas as the refusal of the two part owners to sell the property results in a stalemate.
The Mayoress, Teresa Garcia, announced today that the sale of the bull ring to the Town Hall, as a condition for this year´s fiestas, has been dropped.
The fiestas could go ahead as normal if the minimum requirements to ensure the safety of the public and disabled access were fulfilled, she said.
After purchasing a third share of the bull ring the Town Hall had announced that the other two owners must also sell their shares in order for the fiestas to go ahead. This condition has now been dropped.
She insisted that basic work to reinforce the boxes, a guarantee that the exits were not blocked, disabled access, and work to ensure safety in the bull runs and corrals must be carried out before the fiestas.
Apparently one third owner, Joaquin Caballero, has agreed to these conditions although he still claims he has all the licences and permissions required to mount the fiestas.
The Mayoress has revealed that the Town Hall had agreed to pay 200,000 euros plus a plot on Cañada Verde, valued at over 30,000 euros for a one third share of the property.
The Town Hall had also accepted the valuation of the bull ring at nearly one million euros.
Although he has very little time to comply with the conditions set by the Town Hall, part owner, Caballero, has repeated his determination that the fiestas will go ahead this year.
