The torrential rain during Easter week may have washed out the processions but the 105 litres which fell per square metre has brought spring colours bursting out all over.
In Calasparra it rarely rains and the recent five month drought broke over Easter. All the hard work of the various religious brotherhoods to prepare their statues for the traditional processions was in vain as the skies opened.
However, local farmers and small holders are celebrating a bumper harvest of almonds and olives as their trees benefit from spring rain and sun.
Readers who enjoy a walk in the “monte” will also appreciate the wonderful array of spring flowers, where the grateful, dry earth has burst out in colourful gratitude.
