SPEED LIMIT ON ALL SPANISH MOTORWAYS INCREASED TO 120 KPH FROM JULY I

The steady drop in the price of a barrel of oil has persuaded the Government to repeal the 10 kph decrease in the motorway speed limit and reinstate the limit of 120 kph from Friday, July 1.
Although the price of petrol at the pumps is actually higher now than when the speed limit was reduced to 110 kph, approximately 1,323 euros a litre of 95 and 1,272 euros for diesel, the cost of a barrel of oil dropped by 6% last Friday and the price is expected to continue to fall. This has persuaded the Government to drop the economy measure which, it is estimated, has saved 14.5 million euros in fuel costs in the Murcia region and reduced the number of deaths on the road.
At the weekend crude stood at 107 dollars a barrel compared to 111 dollars in February when the speed limit was reduced. Petrol prices at the pumps on February 21 were 1,284 euros and diesel cost approximately 1,247.
