SLUDGE TIPPED LOCALLY COMES FROM ALICANTE

Lorry loads of sludge from sewage treatment plants in Alicante is being illegally dumped within the municipal borders of Calasparra and Moratalla.
The Mayor of Calasparra, Jesus Navarro, claims “the company which carried out an analysis of the sludge in April has reported it has origins in a sewage plant in Crevillente.”
He says the vehicles dumping the material require a licence, however, as yet no application has been received.
Apparently sewage plants from various municipal areas are dumping the waste materials at two “fincas” in the Calasparra and Moratalla area for eventual use as organic compost.
However, the Mayor of Calasparra has voiced his concerns that there could be an accidental dumping of the material in a one of the local waterways or that it could filter through to a one of the local natural springs.
It takes six months “repose” for the sludge, which has been chopped and mixed to obtain the correct level of the protein, to transform into organic compost.
The General Department of the Environment now has in its necessary possession all the documentation concerning the illegal tipping from the police in Moratalla and Calasparra.
