Sprigs of fresh broccoli sold out quickly on the “Ecologico” stall at Friday’s market last week and this week the crisp white fresh cauliflower is also expected to be in high demand.
Latecomers at Friday’s market have been disappointed to find the star vegetables on the ecological vegetable stall, outside the gates of Cine Rosales, have sold out.
To avoid disappointment the stall has been taking informal orders from regular customers, a scheme which will be formalized in the new future.
This week the stall has spinach, Swiss Chard, broccoli, cauliflower, Jerusalem artichokes, red peppers, fresh haricot beans (sometimes known as flageolet beans), lettuces, bunches of fresh herbs (basil, flat leafed parsley and thyme), carrots, radishes, spring garlic and tomatoes.
Perhaps the secret of the stall´s popularity is because there is no wholesaler or cooperative involved, which means the project sells direct from the garden to the table, shoppers can buy high quality vegetables at reasonable prices.
