SERIOUS INJURY DURING FIFTH BULL RUN

A 32 year old Calasparrian was seriously injured during the fifth bull run of the fiestas when he was gored by a bull just a few yards from the bull ring.
The young runner, initials J.H.M, was among a group surprised by the great speed of the bulls coming venid them. He slipped and fell at the feet of a bull which continously gored him for various interminable seconds until he managed to escape under the barrier.
The rapid intervention of the “pastores” (shepherds) and other runners helped the young man avoid more serious injuries. However, he received three deep wounds: two in the thigh and the third, the most serious, in a buttock.
Dr Ricardo Robles, the head surgoen of the Medical Team at the Bull Ring decided to transfer the injured man, who was conscious throughout, to Hospital Virgen de la Arrixaca by ambulance.
The encierro became dangerous when the one bull separated from the rest at the Cuatro Esquinas. The group veered from side to side with their horns as they progressed along the run putting the runners to the test.
It was the longest encierro of the week lasting three minutes and 23 seconds.
There was also a slight injury in the bull ring when the bulls were let loose. The injured runner was treated at the bull ring.
