SECURITY GUARD FOR LOCAL SEF OFFICE

Following the attack on a member of staff in the SEF Office in Calasparra earlier this week a security guards has been installed on the premises during the public opening hours.
The union representing the workers (CCOO) said verbal attacks and threats were common at all 25 SEF offices in the region. A spokesperson for the unión said the matter of security guards had been raised on several occasions before the attack.
Meanwhile, more details of the assault on the member of staff have emerged.
Firstly, that the attacker used a baseball bat to hit the worker about the head, arms and hands, causing various injuries.
The assailant has been identified as Juan Pedro M.B., known as ‘El Veterano’, allegedly a drug addict, who told the worker “ I am going to kill you.” After being disarmed by the worker´s colleagues he allegedly attempted to grab a fire extinguisher in order to continue the assault.
After appearing before magistrates in Caravaca the attacker was allowed to go home and was later seen around Calasparra.
The Director of the local SEF Office, Bartolomé Sánchex, sais: “My fellow workers are indignant that he is already freely walking the streets after what he did. They have had a serious fright but have continued to attend to the public without pause.”
He said the worker, born in Madrid and father of two, had been employed at the SEF Office for seven years. “His manner when dealing with the public is exceptional. He has never had any problems with anybody.”
The worker is said to be frightened and very affected psychologically by the attack which occurred after he informed the assailant he was not entitled to unemployment benefit. (See previous report on this webpage)
There have been various other incidents in the local office during 2011 and 2013 involving damage to property and threats to the workers.
