RIVER SEGURA FLOODS AT THE SANCTUARY AGAIN

Torrential rain and hailstorms in Albacete on Wednesday afternoon caused wide spread flooding which poured into the River Segura, reaching Calasparra last night at 11pm when the banks burst and flooded the local Sanctuary terraces again causing “significant damage.”
The quantity of water swelling the River Segura via its tributaries, streams and dry river beds, is equal to the amount deliberately released from the Cenajo Reservoir in April 2013 when the terraces at the Sanctuary were flooded for the first time. The bottom terrace has been closed since then and several trees have fallen into the river and had to be removed.
Last night the Sanctuary adopted precautionary measures such as restricting access to vehicles to the affected parts of the grounds.
