The 60 year old Calasparrian, gravely injured when a bull crashed through the barriers in Calle Mayor during the first bull run of the September fiestas, is reported to be in a stable condition and to be “reacting favourable” to treatment.
Emilio Guirao Marín is being treated in the Intensive Care Unit of the (UCI) Virgen of the Arrixaca Hospital in Murcia with seven broken ribs and injuries to his right lung.
Yesterday, Sunday, the barriers and security had been reinforced in Calle Mayor in order to safeguard the public during the week´s bull runs.
The injured man had taken up a position outside the front door of the Casa Granero in Calle Mayor where there were less people in order to watch the bulls from behind the wooden barrier. The animals broke into fast stampede as they left the corral and one bull, which weighed more than a ton, broke away from the others and crashed through the barrier, splintering the wooden bars and injuring the man with his horns.
Emilio Guirao Marín, who suffered a perforated lung, was treated and stabilized at the scene before being transferred to hospital by ambulance. His condition is reported to be “grave but stable.”
