The best and most prestigious chefs in the Murcia region paid a visit to the rice fields of Calasparra yesterday to see where this famous unique product is grown.
The visit was organized by the DOP Calasparra (Denomination of Origin) under the title “Gastronomy and Origin” and the chefs were joined by reporters, producers and representatives of other DO organizations.
The visitors took in the 510 hectares of rice fields nestling in the only high mountain production area in Spain of varieties such as Boma and Balilla X Sollana.
Later they enjoyed the product at the Sanctuary restaurant in a rice dish with small pork ribs, spring garlic and beans from the Segura River area accompanied by other local delicacies such as cheeses, salamis and products conserved in salt.
The day underlined the importance of the synergy between effort and dedication of the farmers and the imagination, personality and talent of the chefs.
