Residents may not deposit domestic rubbish in public containers on Tuesdays or Saturdays as the Town Hall introduce reduced rubbish collection services to save money.
As part of the municipal economy drive a special calendar of refuse collections has been published by the Town Hall. Outside the hottest months, June, July and August, the collection of domestic rubbish on Tuesdays will be cut.
“We have noted that Tuesday is the day when there is less domestic rubbish deposited,” says José Veléz, who says the measure will save petrol and work hours.
Depositing rubbish on Saturdays is already prohibited under local by laws.
The Deputy Mayor also called on residents to cooperate to keep Calasparra and the surrounding areas clean and support the Town Hall’s economy drive.
“Instead of dropping litter on the ground of the Plaza de la Corredera, for example, put it in the bins. We tend to drop litter wherever we are and it costs money to clean the streets. We are calling on residents to keep Calasparra clean,“ he said.
He also commented that large items of rubbish, such as furniture and domestic appliances were often dumped in the countryside” “The Town Hall has a free collection service for this type of rubbish,” he pointed out.
Dog owners are also required to clean up after their pets and fines will be imposed by the local police for persistent offenders.
The new calendar of rubbish collections applies only to domestic rubbish that is not recyclable and is applicable in the town and in the surrounding areas. Residents may continue to recycle as and when they need to as this “carries not extra cost for the Town Hall” according to Velez.
