There seems little progress in bringing together the two sides involved the dispute over the modernization of irrigation systems here in Calasparra as the opposition organises another demonstration and the Farmers´Union continues with work on the project.
Yesterday they couldn´t even agree on the number of protesters who took the streets last Thursday: official sources putting it at 200 while Ardevas calculates some 650 participants.
Ardevas c ontinues to criticise the process through which the installation of drop irrigation was approved claiming that there was only a 70% participation in the vote.
They have also attacked the management of the local Farmers´Union and put in doubt the parciality of the Mayor of Calasparra who supports the project.
According to Ardevas the work on the three and a half million euro modernisation project has begun without those in favour knowing how much they will pay for it.
Meanwhile, work on the project, which has divided the community here in Calasparra, goes ahead and some farmers and small holders expect to have their installtions completed by Christmas.
