The local Water Board, the Confederación Hidrográfica del Segura, is joining with the Town Hall to present a project which aims to remove the barriers for wildlife in our rivers.
The proejct, funded by the Progreaamme LIFE and the EU, will aim to connect the stretch of the River Segura at Cañaverosa with Abarán and Benamor.
The reservoirs and differenes in the level of the river bed constitute barriers for fish, especially the Gypsy Barbo. Eight sets of series of steps will be buuilt to help the flow o the river and one of the barriers, currently in disuse, will be physically removed.
A network of private owners will be established to safeguard the management of the river.
The Project will be officially presented at 7pm on Tuesday December 10 in the Casa de la Cultura. The meeting is open to the public who will be able to comment and make constructive suggestions.
