Six out of every 10 drivers who died on regional roads during last year tested positive for drugs or alcohol, according to the Government Delegate of Murcia as she announced this year´s Christmas anti drugs and alcohol campaign.
During the next week some 200 officers will control around 5,ooo vehicles, testing drivers for alcohol and drugs in an «important and opportune» campaign given the high percentage of alcohol an drugs in drivers who die on the roads.
According to the statistics 31 of the 47 victims in fatal accidents in the region so far this year 31 were drivers and 15 of those tested positive for alcohol or drugs.
To date there have been 144,689 police controls for alcohol on motorists of which 2,186 were positive, representing 1.41% of this total. Some 3,009 drug controls were carried out on drivers of which 1,432 proved positive, 47.69%.
