The local Chamber of Commerce launched a campaign at Christmas via the local television channels encouraging residents to shop in Calasparra in order to “save the local economy.”
According to Radio Calasparra local many local shopkeepers have registered a serious drop in trade and are offering discounts of up to 50%.
The January Sales which began in December in the large stores and commercial shopping centres have also hit local trade, says the spokesperson for the Chamber of Commerce.
However, on the positive the local Chamber of Commerce was named “Belenist of the Year” in a competition organized by the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Hope as recognition of their efforts to support Christmas traditions here in the town.
